Great Good News – Pornhub

And Some Pretty Dismal News:

On December 21, the European Union’s ePrivacy Directive will make it illegal to use technology to detect online child sexual exploitation. The EU Parliament is currently debating a provision that would make an exception in this case. The ePrivacy Directive is a temporary measure that will expire in 2015. If this exception is not passed, children will be without any protection for five years. There is a strong chance that the provisions of the ePrivacy Directive will be incorporated into the final document.

You can help protect children by learning more and signing the petition to the European Union Parliament members.

As you know, pornography on the web is a multi-billion dollar business. Some say 97 billion dollars. That’s probably a wild exaggeration, but in any case, it’s a lot of money.

You can easily find pornography with “adult content” with a quick search. I am reluctant to look for, let alone watch, pornography, but for this article, I used duckduckgo to search for male-female pornography. The top hit was https://www.pornhub.com/video/search?search=male/female

“Male/female Porn Videos | Pornhub.com
Watch Male/female porn videos for free, here on Pornhub.com. Discover the growing collection of high quality Most Relevant XXX movies and clips. No other sex tube is more popular and features more Male/female scenes than Pornhub! Browse through our impressive selection of porn videos in HD quality on any device you own.”

According to Pornhub’s “Year in Review,” (https://www.pornhub.com/insights/2019-year-in-review#2019), there were 42 billion visits in 2019 – 115 million a day – and 39 billion searches. Of those, “teen” was the twelfth most popular. Of course, all the teens are over eighteen, right? And all the viewers are over eighteen, too.

Pornhub claims that non-consensual and child pornography is strictly prohibited on the site, but I do not believe it explains how it enforces this policy. I have trouble believing enforcement is even possible.

Home-made, as well as commercial videos, are posted on Pornhub. I imagine that it is even harder to monitor those films for the rape of adults, let alone children. (By the way, non-consensual, coerced, or forced sex is rape.)

An advocate group called Traffickinghub is working to shut down Pornhub and hold its executives accountable for aiding sexual trafficking. Petitions, media campaigns, pressure on governments, all are ways in which they seek leverage. Learn how you can support them at https://traffickinghub.com/.

Their work has just paid off!

Read this: “Thailand Shuts Down Pornhub For Violating Computer Crimes Act.” https://exoduscry.com/blog/changinglaws/breaking-thailand-shuts-down-pornhub-for-violating-computer-crimes-act/?goal=0_c15bff8d91-3933a2516a-86660702&mc_cid=3933a2516a&mc_eid=a2265e2517

Thailand joins Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, and The Philippines in banning Pornhub. It has also banned 190 other pornography sites!

Thailand has long been known as a center for child sex tourism, and teens, aa well as younger boys and girls, are freely available for sex in Bangkok and other parts of the country. Bangkok is Pornhub’s 10th largest customer base, and Thai users spend more time at the site than any other nationality in the world. This, of course, is a major income stream for the company.

Another way Pornhub might be hurt financially is if the government follows up by cracking down on the production of videos with Thai minors. If they can no longer get these popular (and free) child “actors” and “actresses,” they will lose money from all over the world.

Grassroots protest movements can be effective! That, to me, is very heartening. It shows that power generated peacefully when people come together can stand up against the power of Big Money.

One last word about the connection between sex trafficking and ritual abuse –

Many, many children who were ritually abused have been sold into child prostitution or child pornography to bring money to the cult. Some have remembered, some have not. Needless to say, it affects the victim’s life profoundly in every area.

Another link, which I am just beginning to think about, is that the techniques that pimps use to keep their victims enslaved are sometimes derived from mind control programming developed under MKULTRA and other government/military programs. I am not sure of this, as I have not read any survivor stories or studies (that I remember), but it seems likely to me. If programmed children are flowing into the pornography business, pimps would meet their handlers and ask details of how the children had been trained.

Knowledge, like water, doesn’t like to be confined.

* How to add a comment after a post This blog’s design makes it hard to figure out how to comment. Go down to the bottom of the post (after the calendar) You will see in light grey type: “RATE THIS” tagged (a list of the tags) (the number of) comments” Click on the word “comments” to open all posted comments.

At the very bottom of the page, you will see “LEAVE A REPLY.” That’s where you make a new comment. You can reply to a posted comment by clicking “Reply” under that comment. In each case, make sure to click “POST COMMENT” when you are finished. It’s a good idea to write out your comment first and then paste it in so that you don’t risk losing what you wrote.

Over-Reactions and Under-Reactions as Flashbacks

Since this post is all about flashbacks, you might want to go back and read “About BASK Flashbacks: (https://ritualabuse.wordpress.com/2018/09/10/about-bask-flashbacks/.) I read it periodically to structure my thinking.

You probably don’t remember that I had tentatively started to deal with the stage in my life when I was used in child pornography. I haven’t said anything much about it because the process shut down after just a couple of weeks.

How do I feel? Sad. Disappointed. Relieved. Numb.

And brooding about flashbacks – what they are, where they come from, how to tell if I am in one.

Now, sensory flashbacks are pretty easy for me to identify. I see or hear or smell something that isn’t here now. My classic example is when I was splashing around in the pool, and I suddenly smelled beer in the air above the water. There was no question in my mind that the pool was not filled with beer!!! Sometimes I see something for a moment, and then it changes into something else. A dead body by the side of the road turns into a black plastic bag. You get the idea.

Feelings, however, are much harder to identify. I instinctively try to find a present-day explanation for whatever I am feeling. If I am anxious these days it is because of COVD-19. That makes total sense, right? Everybody is anxious about the virus, and there is no reason why I should be any different.

However, underneath the consciousness of every-day stressors, there is a huge layer of anxiety from my childhood trying to come out. At times it pushes through, seemingly out of nowhere. Other times it piggybacks on something in the present that has already made me anxious. (That’s called being triggered.) Most of the time, it sits there, boiling away, gathering steam, waiting to erupt like a geyser.

I have to remain open to the idea that some of the anxiety I am feeling today comes from those unprocessed feelings from the past. I search for clues (when I remember that I am dealing with more than COVID-19. aging, and chronic pain.) Did it come bursting out of nowhere? Probably from the past. Was I already feeling anxious and started to feel lots more so? Is there anything similar in the two situations? Could I have been triggered?

A psychologist once told me, “If somebody is over-reacting, it means they had to under-react in the past.” This idea has been very useful to me over the years. I do over-react quite a bit, and I have learned to trace my feelings back to situations in my childhood.

It just occurred to me that it doesn’t have to be childhood feelings. David Free, a man I had been e-friends with for twenty-five years, died a couple of years ago. I thought about him a lot, but I didn’t cry. Shortly afterward, a man I barely knew died. I had liked him, but he was an acquaintance, not a friend. I cried for weeks! Of course, I was grieving for David as well. I have no idea why I couldn’t grieve at the time, but I couldn’t. I had to wait to be triggered before I could finally feel my sorrow.

Anxiety from the past doesn’t work on an on/off switch; it’s on a dimmer. When it is strongest, I am in full-fledged panic mode, and when it is weakest, I am totally numb. I’ve only realized this recently; feeling numb is just as much a flashback as feeling panicked.

When I got flashbacks to Satanic abuses, I was not numb. I was full of feelings, mainly fear and anger. When the memories were of family life, they could be accompanied by feelings (mainly outrage and anger,) or I could feel sort of stunned. But anything to do with pornography, I am numb. I can describe the scene, but I cannot retrieve anything of what I felt back then. The only emotion that comes through this veil of numbness is shame.

I have the sense that I felt nothing until it was all over, and only then did I feel shame. And then I forgot everything – the people involved, the audience, the acts I performed, everything. I had been taught (programmed) to forget.

I learned about the forgetting part of the experience when I was giving presentations at Survivorship. I did fine during the workshop, but I was dissociated afterward, and I felt like I was floating. I could not remember what I had said, and I did not recognize any of the people who came up to talk to me, even if I had known them for years. The first time this happened, I was shocked, and I froze and said nothing. I learned to tell people I was in a flashback and could not recognize them. Then I realized I could be calmer and more matter-of-fact if I told them beforehand. The workshops went much more smoothly

I’ve learned so much about my process in the few weeks I’ve been working on these issues. My decision has already paid off, and I believe that I will learn much, much more. I don’t know if I am looking forward to learning more or dreading it. Or both!

~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you, Ellen Lacter, (endritualabuse.org), for bringing this to my attention.
The New York Times is publishing a series of reports, entitled “Exploited,” on the production and distribution of child rape and torture materials on the DarkNet. I’ve listed all those I am aware of below.
Before you plunge in, be aware that some material is very upsetting. I have had images linger in my mind for days after reading some of the articles. I think that one factor was that they caught me by surprise – I expected investigative reporting to be drier. Hopefully, those of you who read will not be caught unaware as I was!
The number of images of children being raped and tortured has been growing exponentially. Videos and photos reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children grew 50% from 2018 to 2019, for a total of almost 70 million!!
Facebook made nearly 85% of the total reports: 60 million photos and videos. Snapchat, Twitter, Google, Microsoft. Apple, Dropbox, and the chat platform Discord also made reports. Facebook, though, cannot be counted on to continue reporting in such numbers, as it is moving toward encrypting Messenger, which accounted for 80% of Facebook’s reports this last year. One step forward, one HUGE step back.
In 2019, there were more videos than stills for the first time. If the trend continues, in a couple of years, almost all the images on the Internet will be videos, many of them home-made.
A lot of people think that the Internet is being used by predators to meet teens or almost-teens in chat groups and entice them into meeting in person or sending obscene selfies. Although this happens, of course, it does not account for the vast majority of reports, which are images of children being sexually abused, often in very brutal ways. Many of these kids are very young; even toddlers and babies are filmed being penetrated or tortured.
There is a new development, and that is the use of live streaming applications, which were developed for business meetings, webinars, and other educational purposes. Prosecuted cases have involved live streaming on Zoom, Apple’s FaceTime, Facebook, Omegle, Skype, YouNow, and others. These sessions can be made interactive; a viewer can ask for a specific sexual act and can give real-time feedback. It’s almost like being there. Unfortunately.
The article on “Preying on Children: The Emerging Psychology of Pedophiles” disturbed me. I am not sure what I think, but I know it challenges my beliefs about the causes of pedophilia and the strategies we need to employ to protect children. Basically, it suggests that pedophilia is not caused by early sexual abuse, but is innate, just like any other sexual orientation. I’d need to see the results of more research to make up my mind, but I am convinced that any research would be very controversial. Also, it would be extremely difficult to reconcile the needs of children and adults attracted exclusively to children.
In the most recent article, “We Had No Idea How Dark This Story Would Get.” Michael Barbaro, Michael H. Keller, and Gabriel J.X. Dance explain that their reporting has already been effecting some changes:
1. A bipartisan bill was introduced in Congress that would require tech companies to retain information on accounts found with illegal photos and videos for a longer time to assist law enforcement with investigations. Congress also is considering drafting other bills covering different aspects of investigation, prosecution, and victim protection.
2. Several tech companies have stated that they “will begin to look for the imagery more aggressively,” such as implementing more rigorous  measures to find and remove illegal imagery and changes in policies around video scanning. Microsoft has expanded the team of employees  that monitors this kind of activity and has also unveiled a tool to detect  adult predators trying to lure children into dangerous situations.
Whether any bills will pass, and whether the tech giants will actually do anything, remains to be seen, of course.
Here’s a list of the Times articles. I think there will be more – if anybody comes across others, please bring them to our awareness through the comment section.
