An online poetry reading by and for ritual abuse/mind control survivors.

Please join us on Saturday 23 October, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm (Pacific Daylight Time) for an online poetry reading by ritual abuse/mind control survivors.

There will be 45 minutes of scheduled poetry readings, with the final 45 minutes allocated for an open mic poetry session (readers to nominate themselves on the day – 3 to 5 minutes per person) and for any questions and conversation.

Ritual abuse and mind control, by their very nature, can trigger strong emotions. The poetry will not be censored and we are not asking the poets to give trigger warnings. We will give a general trigger warning and suggestions for self-care at the start of the program.

This invite is open to survivors, therapists, support people and allies.

Two More Reasons to Rejoice

Another month has passed, another major Satanic holiday has passed. There is a breather until the next really, really major holiday. Many people find the end of October through the end of December a particularly hard, dreary time. We’ve made it through before, and we will make it through again.

Another RA/MC Survivor Poetry Reading

About three weeks from now, there’s going to be a joyous event. Another online poetry reading! I hope those of you who missed the first one will come to this one. Here’s the bare outline —

This reading will be a little different. It will be shorter, but it will have the same structure. Greetings, a preview of what’s coming, the poetry reading itself, a short break, and then questions and comments. What’s really different is that people can read one of their own poems during the questions and comments period.

There will be an Eventbrite announcement with sign-up information which I will post here as soon as I receive it. The reading will be over ZOOM, so if you need to install ZOOM, do it now and play around with it to get used to its features. It’s pretty easy – zillions of people use it and you will be able to, too.

Start and end times are:

Saturday, October 23 at 4-5:30 PM Pacific Time.
Saturday, October 23  at 5-6:30  PM Mountain Time.
Saturday, October 23  at 6-7:30  PM Central Time.
Saturday, October 23  at 7-8:30  PM East Coast Time.
Sunday October 24  at 10-11:30 AM Melbourne Time.

Over-all, this one was easier to organize than the last one. There were some parts that seemed more difficult, but not too many. We had most things in place, and that meant a lot less work for all. (When I say “we” I mean River, Leni, and me, the co-hosts last time.)

If you want to be on the mailing list, let me know in the comment section and I’ll make sure you are included.

A New GrassRoots RA/MC Survivor Community Organization

Creative people are good at creating things but not always good at polishing them or promoting themselves. I know that’s so for me; I tend to drop the ball toward the end of a project in dread of what is coming next. I’m also not very good at technical things. It’s much easier for me to write something than to get it up on the Net. I imagine that a lot of other people have this right brain/left brain problem.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a personal assistant all to myself? Or an assistant I could share with six or ten artists? Or an agent? We could all huddle together and do what they we do best in peace and quiet.

Problem – artists are not known for having extra money, not even enough to pay a sixth or a tenth of an assistant’s salary.

So, how about an organization that could do all this and run on volunteer power? There could be free DIY cheat sheets on a number of topics. A list of volunteers could be compiled. People happy to copy edit, proof read, design layouts, computer trouble shoot – all those good things that others are lousy at. In other words, sort of a cross between a good fairy and Task Rabbit.

This organization could also help artists with publicity – announcing their events, groups, or books in a newsletter and on social media sites and allowing them to use its name to broaden “brand recognition.”

What we can’t do for ourselves, by ourselves, we could do, together, for ourselves and for others.

Guess what? The co-hosts of the poetry series, Leni, River, and I, have created just such an organization. We are calling it “The GrassRoots RA/MC Survivor Collective.” Right now we are working on a website. When it gets a little further along, I’ll send you the link.

The first event to find a home at the GrassRoots Collective will be the poetry reading on October 23.

And, even as you are reading this, the second event is taking form in somebody’s mind.

(A little voice in the back of my head said, “Fuck Halloween. I have better things to do.” Hope others feel the same!)

Now You Can’t Use Your MasterCard to View Child Pornography

* There are two announcements at the end of this article.

~~~~~~~~~~
There’s another huge victory in the fight against child pornography and non-consensual (i.e. rape) pornographic videos on the Internet. MasterCard stepped up to the plate!
My feeling is that MasterCard (and let us hope Visa, as well) has been working on sanctions against porn sites since December when a New York Times article (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/04/opinion/sunday/pornhub-rape-trafficking.html) was instrumental in forcing Pornhub to delete around 10 million videos from its site. https://fightthenewdrug.org/new-york-times-op-ed-exposed-pornhub/
An article by Bloomberg News https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-14/mastercard-rewrites-rules-for-banks-backing-pornography-sellers spells out the conditions under which Mastercard will conduct business with banks.
Banks have long stated they do not accept charges for illegal transactions. This is fine, but if it is widely known that they do not enforce these regulations, consumers feel free to charge anything they care to.
MasterCard has updated the requirements it sets for banks to process payments for sellers of pornography, making them much more specific. Websites must have “clear, unambiguous and documented consent” for adult content and they must require that websites document the age and verify the identity of anyone appearing on-screen as well as those uploading the content.
If they cannot produce this documentation, they must take down posted material and the banks will not allow charges for the use of their site.
I wrote about the link between ritual abuse and child pornography earlier https://ritualabuse.wordpress.com/2020/11/21/great-good-news-pornhub/. There is good news about Thailand’s moved to hurt pornography sites in the pocketbook and protect children from exploitation in the sex tourism business.
Canada is another hot spot of activism. I want to share with you three projects of an organization called The Canadian Centre for Child Protection. The Centre supports both survivors and families, male and female survivors. adult, teen, pre-teen, and younger survivors. It has a large referral network and free downloadable books for adults and children.
Ongoing projects include:
Cybertip.Ca receives 10,000 tips a month about child sexual abuse on the Internet. These are forwarded to the appropriate child welfare agency or law enforcement agency. Cybertip.ca
Project Arachnid, an automated web crawler, searches child pornography sites identified through Cybertip, notifies offending websites, and demands removal of that material. It has also used data from images obtained through Cybertip to design criteria for images of child sexual abuse on other sites. https://projectarachnid.ca/en/
Statistics from their website: 127 billion images processed – 39 million images triggered for analyst review – 7.5 million notices sent to providers – 85% of these notices relate to victims who are not known to have been identified by the police.
The Centre’s International Survivors’ Survey reports the findings from data submitted by 150 adult survivors from around the world. A summary and the complete data are available on the site to download in pdf form. I read highlights of the summary and it took me over an hour! The complete report is 385 pages. I think I will bookmark it and work through it slowly in therapy –  if I have the courage. https://protectchildren.ca/en/resources-research/survivors-survey-results/
The survey remains open if you are interested in adding your voice. You don’t have to complete it in one sitting and you can skip questions.
I feel happy at the developments but totally drained after writing this.
